Farnsworth Swim School Summer 2023 Extraordinary Swim Manager

Would you like to work for a highly successful & accelerated family-run swim school that has created miracles in people’s lives for the last 43 years in Almaden Valley, San Jose? If yes, please read on!  This is mostly an in-person job opportunity with some remote work. 

We are looking for an extraordinary swim school manager for Summer 2023 from 2:50-7:10pm 2 days a week; ideally someone who is open to coming back next Summer 2024. This is a part-time position that would be between 8-10 hours a week, starting at the end of May/beginning of June through mid-August.  An ideal candidate is someone who has summers off, has a flexible part-time work schedule, or someone who only desires summer seasonal work. 

 Must have the following: 

  •     CPR certified (adult, infant & child)
  •     Previous swim teaching experience of all levels, from beginning to advanced
  •     Strong to proficient freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, & butterfly skills
  •     Marketing experience 
  •     Excellent communication skills
  •     Integrity & strong work ethic 
  •     Passionate about swimming, children, & making a difference
  •     Assertive/self-confident, but not egotistical
  •     Lives in San Jose or nearby 
  •     Good computer & writing skills
  •     Excellent leadership

 Would be nice to have the following:

  •     WSI (water safety instructor)
  •     Competent in the two safety strokes: sidestroke & elementary backstroke
  •     Swim team experience
  •     Lifeguard training
  •     Able to rise to the occasion when challenges occur
  •     Has connections to families in San Jose & could draw in more clients
  •     Ideally 25 yrs or older
  •     Experience teaching adults
  •     First-Aid
  •     Open to coming back summer 2024
  •     Someone who is already connected to the Farnsworth Swim School and who is passionate about us.

 The responsibilities include the following:  

  • Onsite communicating with the parents from 2:50-7:10pm at Almaden and Blossom Valley Pools (Tues or Thurs OR Weds or Thurs, at least 2 days a week– 1 in Almaden and 1 in Blossom Valley).
  • Marketing
  • Must be available to substitute teach for swim instructors on the day you are managing if they are sick.
  • Some swim instruction at the beginning of the summer for the afternoon from 2:50-7:10pm for 1-2 weeks.
  • Communicating with parents
  • Observing swim instructors & giving feedback
  • Some bookkeeping
  • Phone calls & emails
  • Being able to teach swimming if an instructor is ill (if no other back-up)
  • Available by phone during swim school business hours the days you are managing
  • Leading some swim demo lessons
  • Possibly interviewing swim instructors 
  • Available to check in with Jaynie by phone 1-3 times a week for at least 15-30 min

We will train the right candidate. This is an in-depth training that I want to invest in someone who is open to returning next summer and possibly beyond. This position will most likely grow into more responsibilities over time.
