One of the many reasons that our program is so effective is that we have a consistent and proven curriculum. This curriculum was developed by Marianne Farnsworth 40+ years ago who was trained by the American Red Cross Learn to Swim Curriculum and Water Safety Instruction, and has been used by every instructor that has taught at the Farnsworth swim school! Much like teachers in a classroom understand the sequence in which to teach math skills, our instructors are trained and shown the most effective ways to teach swimming skills & stroke development.

A very important benefit of having a curriculum is the consistency that it provides among teachers and students.

  • All of our instructors, including substitutes, have been trained and mentored in our curriculum.
  • On any given day that you attend FSS, your instructor will be using their knowledge from our curriculum and teaching the skills based on your level.
  • Every session & summer you attend, regardless of your instructor, you will pick up where you left off in the curriculum.

Our curriculum allows for very fast progress, due to the way it is designed.

  • From one lesson to the next, your instructor will build on your skills, pushing you more each day.
  • Instructors perform lots of assessments along the way, so they are able to teach the subsequent skill as soon as you are ready.
  • Because each skill builds on the previous ones, you are set up for success and will have a strong foundation as you move through the levels.

Because Marianne Farnsworth had 2 Master’s degrees in Education and Child Development and was a professional teacher, the Farnsworth Swim School Curriculum is anchored in professional education. Both Jaynie and Christina also have Master’s degrees in Education and are professional elementary school teachers. Additionally, we have a background in working with a diverse range of students, including special needs. This is what makes us stand out from other swim schools. Following a curriculum is key to successful teaching and learning, and we’re looking forward to another great summer with lots of progress!
